Lure of the Southern Seas The Voyages of Dumont Durville - LAST COPIES

OUT OF PRINT - LIMITED COPIES LEFT

This is a richly illustrated record of the people and places visited and observed by Jules Sebastien Cesar Dumont d'Urville and his fellow travellers.

Dumont d'Urville was one of the greatest French explorers of the 19th Century. He was both inspired by and envious of Captain James Cook, yet visited more of the Pacific and Oceania than Cook or any of his predecessors. The voyages under his command were the zenith of French maritime exploration, colonial ambition and scientific endeavour.

The book includes watercolours, sketches and paintings never published before, and exquisite natural history drawings brought out from the archives of the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris.
