Magpie Ornament

Outer Island

Magpie Ornament

If the Grammy’s included birds, the Australian Magpie might just snag an award for best song.

It has an array of especially impressive complex vocalisations and when it sings its heart out it’s easy to forget that this bird regularly instills fear in so many. From August to early October, magpie swooping season makes many Australians afraid as magpies defend their territory and nests. But fear not, studies have shown that by being non-aggressive yourself, you can actually sway a magpie’s swooping behaviour favourably to you over time. This official bird of South Australia is interested in becoming friends even if it all started off on the wrong foot.
