Harry Seidler: Houses & Interiors (Box Set)
This two book set serves as a tribute to the residential works of world renowned architect Harry Seidler.
The first book covers the first two decades of his work, from his arrival in Australia around 1948. His distinctly popular square wood, brick and tile designs are a testament to what can be gained through such a simplistic approach. His works comprise of houses in isolated bush landscapes, as well as in central metropolitan locations, each devoting great sensitivity to their surrounding environment.
The second book displays his later designs from 1970-2000, comprising similar design approaches yet with subtle evolution in terms of more rounded geometry and the use of modern materials and facades such as glass. Seidler's career span of designs has been very well documented in this set with articulate photography and unobtrusive descriptive content. Harry Seidler is a powerful architectural voice with internationally acclaimed award-winning work spanning five decades. Awarded the RAIA Gold Medal and the RIBA's Gold Medal in 1996, he attended Walter Gropius's Master Class together with notaries such as I.M. Pei and Henry Cobb. He later studied with Marcel Breuer and Josef Albers. Harry Seidler is well known for his tenacity in gaining approvals from planning authorities for his houses, which are all architectural triumphs.
