Bundjalung Weavers: Bulaan Buruugaa Ngali...we weave together presents a rich visual display of Bundjalung weavers practice set in their traditional country of Northern Rivers, NSW.

The publication captures the enduring reclamation journey, sharing stories of Elders, exploring archival and historical museum collections, and outlining traditional plant species and harvesting techniques, inviting others to learn this ancient Bundjalung artform.

Written by acclaimed writer, producer, and director Rhoda Roberts AO, compiled and produced by Kylie Caldwell, and edited by Melissa Lucashenko, this publication foregrounds and empowers Indigenous voices, turning the dominant perspective back to First Nations women as practising artists.

About the key contributors

Rhoda Roberts AO is a nationally acclaimed arts executive from the Bundjalung nation. In 2016 Rhoda received an Order of Australia for her distinguished service to the performing arts, leadership, advocacy and promotion of Indigenous culture.

Kylie Caldwell is a Bundjalung artist dedicated to regenerating weaving practices, working with local women on the Casino Wake Up Time project. In 2016, Kylie was awarded an Encounters Fellowship from the National Museum of Australia, and travelled to the UK and across Australia to research Bundjalung collections in museums including ancestral weavings featured in this book.

Melissa Lucashenko is an acclaimed Bundjalung author. Since 1997 Melissa has been widely published as an award-winning novelist, essayist and short story writer. She was awarded the prestigious Miles Franklin Literary Award in 2019 for her novel Too Much Lip, which followed her ground-breaking novel Mullumbimby.
